The main goal of the Au Pair program is cultural exchange. This means that an Au Pair stays with a host family for 1 year to get to know a foreign culture and to show her or his culture.

Au Pairs quickly start looking for social contact and go out on their own in the weekend. Outside of working hours they usually spend in their room. It is important to clearly indicate the rules regarding this during the selection process. For example, is the Au Pair allowed to receive visitors or is there a time clock.

Absolutely. Our experiences teach us that it is an enrichment to have someone from another culture in the house. Someone who also brings a lot of peace into the house during the intensive years with young growing children. The costs of an Au Pair are often no higher than a babysitter, especially if you take into account that an Au Pair can also take on light household tasks and is allowed to cook.
